Here’s what you can do to stop feelings of being overwhelmed.
Have you ever felt overworked and overwhelmed? Like there are not enough hours in the day? If only there was an extra hour (or 10), then maybe we would manage to get through our endless to-do list. When was the last time you took a few minutes, an hour or dare I say even a full day to focus on you?
We live in a world where we have to take on every role. You’re not just a business owner or parent, you’re a multitasker, a carer, a networker, a cleaner, a taxi driver, a bank teller, a chef, a life coach, a nurse. You are many different roles combined. With all of this on our plate, SELF-CARE IS THE LAST THING ON YOUR MIND.
We also live in the digital age where we are constantly surrounded by unrealistic representations of everyday life. This can cause us to have feelings of comparison or guilt as we compare our lives to those on social media. Too often we forget that the people we follow online are only showing us their ‘highlight reel’, showcasing the moments they want us to see and hiding the STRUGGLES they are dealing with every day.
No one is immune to stress, grief, frustration or anger, but in a world where people are not broadcasting their BAD DAYS, it can often feel like we are alone in our struggles.

As a Health and Wellness Coach, I have worked with a number of people who were feeling overwhelmed with things to do.
One of my clients is a hard working mum with 2 kids, running her own business, while also supporting her husband with his small IT business too. She came to me feeling completely overworked, stressed, low in confidence, struggling with her weight and flying off the handle with her family. She knew it was time to make a change and decided to ask for help.
Within the first session, she saw the impact that stress was having on her, both mentally and physically and knew that if she didn’t make a change, it would only lead to further weight gain, anger outbursts and the risk of more serious health conditions. The session helped her to STOP and really take a look at her life and realised that she had choices.
She had completely changed her perspective and realised the value of taking time for herself.
After our sessions, not only did she lose weight, but she also increased her confidence and realised the importance of setting boundaries at work and at home and to prioritise her self-care to benefit her health and family. She discovered how to better handle her emotions and how to lead calmer relationships with her children and hubby.
I see this kind of change in many of my clients after our sessions, as we work together to look at their overall stress load and work on creating techniques to manage your stress, worry, weight, time, including sleep quality, food habits and prioritise the time to spend at their preferred ways to relax and unwind.

Here are 3 things you can do right now to instantly relieve your stress.
1. Focus on your breath.
Something as simple as taking a deep breath in and slowly releasing, allows us to instantly let go of any pent-up stress or frustration. It might not solve your problem, but a few rounds of deep breaths will clear your mind enough to see the problem at hand in a completely new light.
2. Relax your shoulders.
Have you ever noticed that your shoulders start to hunch when you’re feeling overwhelmed? Stress can often lead to physical issues in the form of tense shoulders, stiffness in the neck and tight muscles. Once you are aware of this, you can start to incorporate simple stretches into your day to relieve the tension.
Take a minute to roll your shoulders up and back. Lift up your arms and stretch them high above your head, focusing on the very tips of your fingers as you reach up to the sky. Do this 3 times whenever you feel your body tightening and I promise it will work wonders for your stress relief.
3. Get away from the PC.
Even if it’s only for 5 minutes. Leave the technology behind and get outside for a breath of fresh air and a quick stretch. If you don’t have time to do a full lap of the neighbourhood, your back garden is just as good!
