LESS WORK, MORE LIFE BALANCE

December 11, 2018

TWO OF THE BIGGEST REGRETS PEOPLE HAVE ON THEIR DEATH BED ARE

I WISH I HADN’T WORKED SO HARD’

AND

‘I WISH I LIVED A LIFE I CHOSE MYSELF’

With such a fast paced life we live these days-work ,work, work, many people are lost in the belief that- THE BUSIER WE ARE, THE MORE MONEY WE EARN, AND THE MORE THINGS WE HAVE...... the more extra-curricular activities we put into our lives and our children’s lives, THE HAPPIER AND MORE FULFILED OUR LIVES WILL BE.

We have forgotten that happiness is a place of being, the present moment, the here and now, not a place to arrive at or a destination.

We have lost sight of the damage of packing our schedules and speeding through our lives causes, we fail to notice the toll it takes on every aspect of our lives on our

-Health

-Relationships and even the

-Environment

I would like to share with you some of my observations/thoughts on working with people to achieve the work/life balance and how we can tackle it going forward.

Firstly, there is a certain percentage of the people working long hours in jobs that they hate, that are draining the life and soul out of them to enable them to buy things that they don’t really need and to impress people they don’t even like.

They are Unaware that they are being influenced by external factors AND not their own core values.

They are stuck on a thread-mill of life designed by someone else.

UNTIL PERHAPS, THEY GET A WAKE-UP CALL LIKE A BURNOUT OR AN ILLNESS

Secondly, there is a certain percentage of people keeping themselves so BUSY,  constantly switched on to technology and packing their schedules to avoid thinking on a deeper level,  ignoring their INNER VOICE.

Maybe in FEAR of change, an unhappy relationship, an unfulfilling career.

SWITCHED OFF EMOTIONALLY

SWITCHED OFF SPIRITUALLY.

Telling themselves on a subconscious level

‘IF I KEEP MYSELF BUSY, I DON’T HAVE TO DEAL WITH THAT’

We need to take responsibility for enforcing and setting the boundaries in our lives, for our long-term health and the health of our children and not leave it in the hands of companies, governments or the health care system. We need to take a step back and take stock and ask ourselves some very important questions, is this the life I choose to live and what will these choices result in in 10 years…….20 years-time?

DO I WANT TO TAKE THE TIME TODAY TO LOOK AFTER MY HEALTH AND WELLBEING OR AM I PREPARED TO TAKE THE TIME IN THE FUTURE,  MY RETIREMENT TO LOOK AFTER AN ILLNESS?

WE NEED TO DESIGN OUR OWN LIVES.

In order to achieve this, we need to approach balance in a balanced way, a holistic way. To be balanced we need to attend to all areas of our lives, our

-physical

-Mental

-Emotional

-Spiritual

That small things matter and to start by making a small change, not overhauling your whole life.

Let me tell you a STORY.

It was 2 days after Christmas about 2 years ago, I was in Tipperary at my Mum's house when myself and my son went for a walk up the hill in front of the house to the highest point, through a beautiful valley of mossy trees and fallen leaves, we listened to the sounds of the birds and the trickle of the waterfall. We got to the top with our heads blown off us by the frosty wind.

On the way down, my son said ‘Mammy, this is the best day EVER’

I thought WOW, Santa had just gone 2 DAYS AGO, he had received loads of presents from family and friends, but things didn’t matter to him. The best thing for him was time with me. OUT IN NATURE, NO TECHNOLOGY, NO THINGS.

Therefore, making the smallest investment in the right places, you can GREATLY ENRICH the quality of your life, your relationships and your health.

By allowing ourselves to step of the THREAD-MILL OF LIFE FROM TIME TO TIME AND STEP ONTO THE THREAD-MILL OF LIVING and reflect on the direction our life is going and start to do more of the things we enjoy. Not only will slowing down reduce the stress in our lives, it will benefit everyone around us, and we won’t have to regret in later life THAT WE WORKED TOO HARD OR TOO MUCH OR THAT WE DIDNT CHOOSE OUR OWN LIFE.

As this time of year many of us look to the new year as a NEW START, a new beginning, a time of change.

Maybe this year look at change a little different, a broader view of your life, not just changing DIET and FITTNESS.

If you need some help to clarify what direction you want to take and what you really want to achieve for 2019 and make this a year of sustainable change not just a REPETITVE cycle for which you will arrive back at this time next year.
